New Year, Same Jamie McIntyre

If you thought Jamie McIntyre was slowing down after the massive year he’s just had, think again. Dropping tonight at midnight, his new track "17 Again" is one of his best so far and has all the characteristics of a massive hit. The track kicks in with that distinct twangy folk sound before settling into those incredible signature vocals we’ve all come to love. Jamie sounds better than ever, but he’s also digging deeper than he ever has before. This track is really really honest.

Jamie has always had a knack for writing songs that just get it and this one is no exception. The lyrics are very relatable and the themes covered are things the a lot of artists and people in general shy away from at times. He’s singing about that weird limbo of your early twenties, watching friends move away, feeling like everyone else is miles ahead, and dealing with anxiety that goes "through the roof" even when you’re technically succeeding. It’s incredibly relatable stuff. You can feel the genuine weight in lines like "I don't know where I'm going / The storm it keeps on blowing," summing up the panic of overthinking everything while trying to keep a brave face.

Production-wise, the track is as smooth as ever, which is no surprise given that the brilliant Gavin Doyle is back on the buttons. Doyle and McIntyre clearly have built on their connection, because the polish here is next level. Listen closely for the build-up on the instrumental near the end during the "paranoia off my head" section, it’s little touches like that that back the track feel big. It feels professional, deliberate, and perfectly executed. Ultimately, "17 Again" is an absolute earworm. The chorus is what we've come to expect from Jamie's writing, undeniably catchy. You'll be humming the instrumental after the first listen, but there is a maturity here that separates it from his earlier work. It feels like Jamie has truly found his lane, understanding exactly what works for his voice and his storytelling. 2026 is his year. There's absolutely no denying him.
