Stick the Kettle On: Groev Continue Their Winning Streak with New Release "Kettle for Tea"

Irish indie-folk outfit Groev are back and ready to capture hearts once again with their brand-new single, "Kettle for Tea," out today June 26th. The band has been on a remarkable upward trajectory following the success of previous releases like "Right Back to You", "Tara Grove", and their emotionally charged debut single "Ben & Jerry's". Now, they are adding to that impressive catalog with a brand-new track beautifully recorded at the iconic Windmill Lane Recording Studio.  

Having had early access to this track, I can confidently say I've been listening to it for over a month, and it has never left my daily plays. The production sounds incredibly polished, something that I've noticed with every release from these guys. They always find a way to make their tracks sound beautiful. If "Kettle For Tea" had to be likened to anything from their previous discography, it taps into that same honest, raw, grounded feel of "Ben & Jerry's." The band's versatility is simply amazing, allowing them to shift seamlessly from tracks about grief to warm, acoustic storytelling without missing a single beat.

The story behind "Kettle for Tea" is wonderfully rich and deeply personal. As the band shared on social media, it centers on the adventures of lead singerJoe's father, Alan, who built a 'Teardrop trailer' nearly twenty years ago and has since traversed practically every corner of this beautiful country in it. The lyric "From the hook to the horseshoe, and all of the land that lies in between" is a direct reference to the little caravan witnessing the best sights the island has to offer, from the Hook Head lighthouse in Co. Wexford all the way up to the Gleniff horseshoe in Co. Sligo.

The song paints a vivid picture of a man travelling "with the wind on his back and his eyes on the sea." While he'll take any chance he can get to get out and explore the country's backroads or seaside spots, the call of home and his darling wife will always bring him back. The teardrop trailer, the Kelly kettle, and all the memories and adventures that have accompanied them will stay with Joe for life, making it only fitting to immortalize them in a song. The track is pure cinematic brilliance that wouldn't sound out of place in a high-budget Hollywood movie. I cannot tell you how many videos I've made of the Irish landscape using this track as a backdrop. It just fits so perfectly. I'm also delighted that the track shows off how talented these guys are. The instrumentals are superb and as always Joe's voice will leave you speechless.

Fans will have plenty of chances to hear "Kettle for Tea" live over the coming months. The boys have recently played the Doolin Folk Festival, the Galway Folk Festival, and an impressive double-duty run of two shows in two counties on Paddy's Day. To celebrate the new release, Groev will be embarking on a dedicated "Stick the Kettle On" cafe tour (dates below). Beyond the cafe run, they will be taking the stage at Whelan's on the 2nd of July, and looking further ahead, they are slated to support Gavin James at the Big Top in Co.
